So, what on earth is going on at Nong Sai fishing park near Udon Thani? This was a relatively quiet fishery until recently, when some new owners came along and thought it would be a great idea to introduce karaoke as part of the 'attraction' to the days fishing!
In England, many fisheries banned radio's, so as to respect other anglers need to peace and quiet to enjoy their sport and days fishing. However, karaoke is a big deal in Thailand, probably as in years gone by there was precious little other entertainment available, and now it is part of a days fishing at Nong Sai - well, not for me. I really do not need music being blasted out at 100 watts a mere 30m from where I am sitting, when all I want to do is focus on my fishing.
There are many good things in Thailand to make anyone want to live here but karaoke is not one of them, especially when those participating cannot sing in tune, and many cannot. For what they lack in quality, they make up for in volume - and it's painful.
So, if you want a peaceful day out next to a lake, do not go to Nong Sai, as that is not part of the package anymore - more is the pity.
