The Harmony Bar restaurant in Udon Thani is certainly among my favourite places to dine out if I am looking for a European meal, although there is a selection of Thai meals available, making it an ideal place to take your Thai wife or girlfriend, where you can both 'eat native' to your total satisfaction. The owner (Rüdiger), and the hostesses are incredibly polite and friendly, and between them can talk to you in German, English and Thai (should you want to take your girl lady with you). There are three large tables inside, to sit up to 8 people, and three more, slightly smaller tables outdoors, that seat 6 people, plus a bar area with a few stools.
The Harmony Bar menu offers a wide range of traditional German meals which I have found to be simply delicious, in part down to the use of pepper in the sauces that comes with the meals. Before your main course arrives, you get a bowl with a side salad, in a mustard sauce, which is also top notch. You do not have to have a proper meal here, as there is also a range of snacks on offer, should you only require something smaller and lighter. Smaller portions of the main meals are also available for children.
In addition to the excellent food, there is a decent range of drinks available too, with the standard Thai beer options of the likes of Chang,Leo but there is also something called "Wheat Beer" available, imported from Germany. For me it is an acquired taste, and I was not so keen on it, although my German relative said it was good, but then he is used to drinking it.
The Harmony Bar is particularly useful if you are staying at the Ruysuk Hotel, about another 10 minutes up the Adunyadet Road, past the 7/11 Mini-mart

With you back to the Day and Night complex, turn left and head to the top of the road, where you will see the new 7/11 mini-mart. Turn left at the junction, and keep going until you arrive at a crossroads. At the crossroads, turn right in to Adunyadet Road, and the Harmony Bar is just a short distance, on the left.
